From the most recent Sales Flyer:

Mid-Century Marvel!
4 BEDROOM / 2.5 BATH HOME

This lovely California contemporary tri-level home is situated on just under a half acre lot, with an abundance of space and natural light. The home blends its original mid-century charm with more recent updates: a two-car garage, copper plumbing, updated wiring, renovated baths, a huge bonus room/sunroom addition, Texcote exterior paint, energy efficient upper roof, a large shed with electricity, an expansive rear multi-tier deck with Jacuzzi, and more.

The landscaped front yard features a sprinkler system and Japanese pond. Enter the home on the main level to a living area with an open floor plan, vaulted tongue-and-groove ceilings, exposed beams, a skylight and brick planter, and quality beech wood floors. Continue past the living room's exposed brick wall to the dining room (with French doors leading to the rear deck), and the kitchen, with white cabinetry and tiled backsplash, and a breakfast bar with see-thru lighted cabinets. White tiled floors run throughout both rooms. The rear deck has a built in bench, arbor, privacy lattice, and Jacuzzi. The backyard is fenced.

The vaulted ceilings continue through the upper level. All three bedrooms have neutral carpet and ceiling fans. The “Hollywood Bath” (one and a half baths) is accessible from both the master bedroom and hallway. The updated hall bath has neutral-colored cabinetry and cultured marble top. The master bedroom has a walk-in closet, and French doors that lead to the backyard and Jacuzzi. The lower level features the in-law suite, complete with the fourth bedroom and a renovated full bath with white fixtures, and a den with a unique corner wood-burning brick fireplace, wet bar, and tiled floor. There is an unfinished room with washer/dryer hookups. The sunroom addition also has a vaulted tongue-and-groove ceiling, four picture windows, a tiled floor, and access to both the garage and front walk.

With the abundance of mature foliage, contemporary homes, large lots, a swim/tennis club, proximity to I-85, I-285, the CDC, shopping, and much more, it’s easy to see why this year The Atlanta Journal/Constitution and Creative Loafing named the Northcrest subdivision a destination neighborhood and one of the best examples of mid-century architecture in the metro area. DeKalb county taxes were a low $1,956 in 2005. For more images, visit: www.AtlantaIntown.com.

John's Notes:
This P&H Phase 1 Style 1 home is typical of the style, with lower-level carport (now enclosed as a garage) to the left, with bedrooms above and the main living/dining areas to the right. The front patio has also been enclosed to further the basement living space.

In 1999 the current homeowner, Charles Green, was looking for a home in Atlanta that was mid-century modern (he couldn't afford one in LA where he lived for 20 yrs but could afford one here). While some modifications were done by the previous owner (carport and outside patio enclosed), Charles felt that she had overall preserved the integrity of the home, particularly the interior, or at least had done tasteful modification. Over the past nearly five years he have enhanced the house by swapping out the interior Home Depot lights for 60s wall fixtures (thanks to hot bidding on Ebay). The most recent change was the replacement of the front door - the traditional door has been replaced with a genuine 60s door, very unusual in design.

Charles has some images of both the interior and exterior of his home available here. You will also see on the website that Charles' home has a pleasant mix of mid-century modern furniture. When asked what's next, Charles replies that he is "...actively looking for a replacement for those hideous garage doors."
