From the 2006 Northcrest Tour of Homes Guide:
Inspired by the architectural styles of Frank Lloyd Wright, Green & Green and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, (homeowner) Terry Ernsberger designed and built many enhancements to create a stunningly beautiful home. The ink wasn't even dry yet on the mortgage papers when Terry began renovations by removing the master bedroom carpeting to reveal beautiful hardwoods.
The entire kitchen was gutted and modernized with Jenn-Air© appliances and Corian© counter tops. In rebuilding the main bathroom, Terry used the extra-deep wet wall (where all the plumbing is housed), to his advantage by recessing the mirror, accent lighting, and much-needed shelving space.
The movie theater in the basement is a must-see! Starting with an empty shell of a room and a 65-inch TV, Terry created an entertainment showcase. The room features Green & Green influenced hardwood walls, and a twilight blue ceiling reminiscent of the Fox Theater. Media and electronics are housed in a hidden room behind a secret door.
Additional improvements include new paint throughout, a new entryway wall, restoring the upstairs fireplace, carpeting, hardwood flooring in the living room and hallway, Japanese-style decking, a zen garden, and other landscaping improvements. Through it all, Terry has retained - and enhanced - the home's mid-century modern appeal.
What's next? Terry says furniture would be nice.
